Herpes is a common viral infection that is caused by Simplex Virus. It is a sexually transmitted disease that spreads from one person to another person by skin-to-skin contact. It usually appears as blisters around the lips of the face and also in the genital regions. As it is incurable and efforts are on to find a cure for it, it has been a mystery for the mankind for ages. Mankind has been trying to learn about The History of Herpes for a long time. He also has been trying to find from where the virus originated from and from when has it so widespread. Let’s try to find an answer for it.

The History of herpes dates back to many centuries ago. Some even say that the virus evolved along with man. But the first documented history has been found during the Greek civilization. The word “Herpes” is a Greek word that means “to crawl or creep”. Mention of herpes has been found in the writings of Hippocrates, who has described it as the sores that appear to creep on the skin’s surface.

During the Roman regime around two thousand years ago, Tiberius, the Emperor had made an attempt to stop the epidemic of “Herpes Labialis” that had infected many people. To do so he passed a decree that prohibited Kissing in public rituals, events, and ceremonies. After Tiberius, a physician named Celsus suggested that herpes should be treated by burning or cauterizing the open sores with hot iron. There is no evidence to suggest as to how long both the orders lasted, but it seems that both were for a short time only.

When we study The History of Herpes, we can even find evidence in the plays of Shakespeare, where in his famous play of Romeo and Juliet, he mentions the ‘blisters plagues’, which now are interpreted as being referred to the virus. Even the Medical Journals in the eighteenth and the early nineteenth centuries have discussed this disease. During those times there had been immense speculation regarding the cause of infection. It was even speculated that it was caused by Insect Bites. Thus it is very much evident that there has been lot of misconception about the disease.

In 1873, Vidal was the first physician who demonstrated that Simplex was an infection that spread due to human inoculation. Since the early 1900s, there has been a growing understanding about the Virus. In The History of Herpes, for the first time, in 1919, scientist named Mr. Lowenstein confirmed the suspicion that Herpes was infectious. Before this confirmation, Herpes was always considered as a non communicable disease – like eczema.

Studies and research have been going on into the twentieth and the twenty-first century. In the twentieth century, the scientists were able to identify the various strains of Virus, but the cure to this disease still eludes us.

Although there is no definitive cure for Herpes, there are effective treatments available. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment

Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), commonly called as Herpes, is a Sexually Transmitted Disease in which a person develops blisters around genitals. Can one catch the infection by using the same toilet seat or towel as someone with herpes? This is the most commonly asked question. Fortunately these are myths. Toilet seats and Herpes have nothing in common except this myth. This article discusses this issue in detail.

Whoever said, “A little knowledge is a dangerous Thing” was indeed a wise man. Incomplete information often misleads people resulting in even more ignorance of the facts. So, is the case with Sexually Transmitted Diseases? Being a sensitive issue, most people choose not to discuss it with their doctors even if they are infected. Parents always have problems discussing such issues with their children and this often leads to misinformation gathered from different, unreliable sources. People who want to deny the causes of contracting the virus may spread misleading information. Truth is that it is nearly impossible to get infected by contact with a toilet seat or towel. Usually it is caused by exchanging bodily fluids or any type of sexual activity with a person who is already infected by the virus. If the person has active lesions then your chances of catching the virus increase. An inactive virus can also infect you but it definitely needs its carrier and can not be transferred from one person to another through toilet seats etc. So, from now onwards you don’t need to fear that use of public toilet seats and Herpes will transmit infection.

The Virus enters our body through the mucous membrane, which is present inside our mouth, inner genitals, anus etc. Sexual activity which brings the active virus in contact with this membrane transmits Herpes. Otherwise the Virus cannot survive outside the human body and without bodily heat and moisture. On a dead surface like a toilet seat, the virus can not survive. So there is absolutely no connection between a toilet seats and Herpes.

The symptoms are small ulcer like blisters which may or may not be painful. The initial stages may involve slight itching, rashes or pain around the genital area. For Herpes to infect a body it is necessary to have sexual contact and that is why safe sex is emphasized the most these days and it is recommended to use a condom. They provide a good measure of protection against this infection but not complete protection. HSV is a life long Infection, once you get infected you will experience active lesions. Treatment can cure blisters and pain but the virus will remain inside your body. Anti viral therapy can also reduce the risk of shedding the virus considerably.

Although there is no definitive cure available for Herpes, there are effective treatments available that can make coping with Herpes much easier. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment.

Herpes simplex is a disease caused by two types of viruses called the HSV-1 and the HSV-2. They can affect a person orally or the genitalias. Oral herpes is usually caused by HSV-1 while genital herpes is caused by HSV-2.

What are the other things you should know about herpes?

The most important thing you should know about herpes is that it can be contracted sexually. Thus, it is very important that if you have a new sexual partner, you should both be screened for STD’s before having any sexual contact. Contrary to what many of us believe, over the counter medications will do no good for someone who has herpes.

Things you should know about herpes that infects the lips or herpes labialis:

These infections are, actually, what is more commonly called cold sores or fever blisters. Other signs that you have contracted herpes labialis include headaches, dizziness, nausea and painful ulcers that often look like canker sores. Infected people may also experience fever and a sore throat. They do not always show up at first so it can be hard to tell if you are infected or not but generally, if the symptoms do appear, they can disappear in two weeks. However, even if the sores and blisters did disappear from the mouth, it does not mean that the virus HSV-1 has also been removed.

Things you should know about herpes that infects the genitals or herpes genitalis:

This type of herpes is usually caused by HSV-2 but in recent cases, it has also been found that HSV-1 had become a culprit for this disease. The bad news about genital herpes is that they commonly do not show signs and symptoms and thus, spread of the virus is commonplace. However, for cases that show symptoms, genital sores are often visible in the infected area. Lesions could be visible on the glans penis, other parts of the genital area, the buttocks and inner thighs as well as the anus in males. For females, these sores could be found in the labia, the vulva, pubis, clitoris as well as on the buttocks and anus.

Sometimes, people who have caught genital herpes may also experience headaches, muscle pain, discharge from the penis or vagina and fever, as well as swollen lymph nodes. Symptoms usually appear, if they do, four to seven days after catching the virus. They stay on for two to three weeks until the lesions become ulcers. When they dry out, they became crusts and they start to heal. This, however, does not necessarily mean that the virus has gone away.

Things you should know about herpes and treating the disease:

Antiviral medications, topical treatments and other drugs are often used to treat herpes – but they are not used to prevent a person from catching the disease. For severe cases, it would be best to consult a doctor no matter how embarrassing it may be. To prevent catching the virus, a person should be screened for STDs or and use condoms for protection.

Although there is no definitive cure available for Herpes, there are effective treatments available that can make coping with Herpes much easier. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment.

Herpes of the oral or genital type is a very widespread infection that is present among people of different age levels and gender who engage in sexual activity. Oral herpes is a special type of herpes virus infection usually affecting the dermal regions of the mouth and the symptoms for both men and women are generally the same. However, female genital herpes presents different symptoms than men because the genitals of both genders have a different structure and function.

Both genders diagnosed with oral herpes will manifest a characteristic cold sore on oral regions wherein blister formations are present after certain early symptoms such as tingling, burning and pain in the affected area. Usually, blisters and sores develop that have a reddish base and later turn into grayish ulcers in your skin which can last from 2 to 4 weeks. Once a person has been infected with herpes virus, he or she will continue to experience periodic outbreaks so diagnosed individuals should seek and follow medical advice to prevent spread of infection.

When it comes to the second most common type of infection, genital herpes has one additional characteristic symptom only exclusively seen in women who get this virus. Symptoms in women herpes have distinct characteristics compared with symptoms from men because the genital makeup of both gender are not the same.

Symptoms in women with general herpes are the same with men only when it comes to blister formation on the genital and anal regions of their body. These blisters or sores have a common measurement from 1 to 3 mm only and are surrounded by a reddish irritated skin. As the viral infection progresses which can last for up to 4 weeks during outbreaks, the blister groups will then erupt and become ulcer formation in the genital or anal areas. This is a basic symptom common to all people having genital herpes which also include muscle pain, fever, headache and swollen lymph nodes in the thigh or rectal area.

The distinct characteristic symptom that women may develop on their first herpes outbreak is the vaginal discharge and pain when urinating. The inner mucus lining of women’s genitals can also get infected once it has undergone direct contact with infected bodily fluid from her partner. Blisters and forms that are found outside the skin for both genders can occur inside the vaginal cavity for women.

For this reason, additional symptoms found only in women include anal and/or vaginal discharge and painful urination. The mucus membranes and blister formation inside a woman’s vaginanal tube can cause pain whenever urine passes through the infected area. Vaginal or anal discharges which is characterized by a clear, white or pale yellow fluid secretion from the vagina that indicates infection within the vaginal wall.

Genital herpes in women may show no symptoms aside from the painful vaginal discharge that they feel. Vaginal discharge is not only a tell tale sign of herpes virus and may be caused by other forms of STDs so check out for sores and blisters surrounding the vaginal area. If you suspect you have genital herpes, it is best to ask a physician for medical diagnosis and expert advice on treatment options for further outbreaks that may occur.

Although there is no definitive cure available for Herpes, effective treatments are available that can make coping with Herpes much easier. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment.

Herpes is a lifelong infection you can acquire when a herpes simplex virus invades your skin through direct contact from an infected individual. The most common characteristic of herpes are reddish blisters and sores found on skin areas located near the mouth, neck, genitals, or anal part of the body. A herpes infection causes pain and tingling sensations in the infected area during an outbreak which may start in as little as 4-7 days upon after direct contact.

If you have a herpes infection and are experiencing periodic painful outbreaks, then this article will give you some important steps to reduce pain for Herpes. To be able to cope with herpes outbreaks that may cause severe discomfort, here are the some alternative do it yourself steps to reduce pain for Herpes:

Use a Black Tea leaf (Camella Sinensis) topical remedy for your cold sore as this is one of the most effective natural remedies available. Camella Sinensis is rich with “tannins” or substances that have high anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. All you have to do is to make a cup of black tea, let it cool for a moment before applying it to the painful area. Hold the tea bag for 5 minutes approximately for 2 -3 times every day during the oral herpes outbreak.

For cold sores that have developed due to oral herpes, you can try applying ice pack over the area to help you numb and soothe painful sensations. You can use cold vegetable packs or anything frozen because ice is known to have an anesthetic effect when applied to sore spots.

Using an Aloe Vera gel on the blister and sore formation will help your body speed up its healing process and decrease the severity of painful symptoms during herpes outbreak. Try to find a pure inner Aloe Vera gel to get more effective relief on itching and pain sensations. Aloe Vera also has properties that will help your skin speed up its natural healing process. Just apply it on any part of your body that is infected with herpes virus.

To effectively decrease the outbreak of of herpes infection and to relieve herpes pain as well, an alternative method is applying tea tree oil in the affected area. This is especially successful with women who experience genital herpes and have pain when urinating.

Baking soda is an old and tested itch reliever for herpes outbreak, similar to cornstarch. Baking soda and cornstarch help you dry out herpes sores and control itching during outbreaks. To apply baking soda or cornstarch, use a damp cotton or cloth which and coat it with the powder which will then be applied to the sore spot. Only use the cotton once and throw it away after contact with the sores so infection will not spread.

Herpes pain may be generally relieved by pain relief medications such as your local aspirin, ibuprofen, or paracetamol. These drugs are widely available in most pharmacies and can help you soothe the pain during herpes outbreaks. You can also ask for your doctor to give you a prescription on “Pain killers” to help you cope with painful herpes outbreak.

The above mentioned facts are just few of the numerous tried and tested steps to reduce pain for herpes outbreaks that you may be experiencing. Always remember that the best advice on these matters come from medical experts so consult your doctor for further recommendations.

Herpes is a viral infection chiefly caused by Herpeshominis or herpes simplex virus which commonly plagues individuals from all age groups. Herpes infection can spread through direct contact of infected bodily fluid (such as the saliva) to an opening in your skin most commonly found around oral, genital and anal areas. Oral sex and herpes are the most common sources of infection among those infected with the virus.

Herpes virus is usually spread by having genital or oral sex with infected individuals. In fact, oral herpes is the most common type of herpes infection due to increased oral sex activities. The symptoms of a person having herpes infection include cold sores in the mouth due to contact with infected person from oral sex and herpes blisters in genital or anal areas of the body.

Oral sex and herpes is a dangerous combination for people who are immunocompromised and for babies who were born from mothers infected with this disease. The herpes virus is dangerous even to healthy people as it can invade the brain and multiply in your centrel nervous system which can cause encephalitis or may involve to a grave brain infection.

The Herpes virus you can get from oral sex may not give you any symptoms but the virus is still present and inactive in its latent form. This means that once a person gets infected, he or she may be an unknown carrier of the infection who unconsciously endangers the life of his partner and her unborn child. Once you have oral herpes, you will have recurring outbreaks because the herpes virus is capable of becoming latent in our body.

Herpes is of two types, also known as HSV1 and HSV2. HSV stands for Herpes Simplex Virus. This virus is there in our body since birth, but its stays dormant always. It is something like small pox and chicken pox. In very few cases it awakens and makes you ill. Mostly it is transmitted sexually. It is an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) that can transfer to the partner with even a single kiss. Having sex with him or her makes you a sure prey to the ailment. It is not that this disease is not curable, but it surely takes considerable time and effort. Besides, the patient loses confidence as these patches spoil the grace of your face. If not cured properly, when the sores dry out, they leave permanent marks on the skin that fade out in several years.

How to tell if someone has herpes is complicated. That is because the symptoms of this ailment are quite common. They can resemble many other skin ailments. One of the most common symptoms of this problem is cold sores near the lips and chin area. These are red patches filled with a sort of a mushy liquid. They resemble to the patches caused due to ringworms. They begin with dry & patchy skin and slowly & steadily in around 5 days they turn in to cold sores that are quite painful and look quite shady. When the dryness of the skin occurs it seems like simple impact of change of weather. When they turn in to cold sores, the disease has already progressed and takes a long time to get cured.

The one that happens on the face is HSV1. HSV2 occurs in the genitals, the area around the penis, vagina, buttocks, thighs, etc. These blisters are very painful and infectious as well. In this type of herpes, some times the patient also experiences headaches and the body temperature can become very high. This sort of fever is not constant but occurs time & again. You may also feel unusual pain while urinating.

The best way to diagnose disease is to have a blood test. The cold sores may make the ailment obvious. Take precautions before its too late. If you suspect that some one has unusual dryness on the face or the genitals, they should have a blood test. That is the safest and a sure method to determine one’s medical condition.

The sad truth

Herpes is a viral disease caused by two types of viruses: the HSV-1 and the HSV-2. These viruses are commonly spread to other people when an infected person has sexual contact with another. However, it is also possible for one to spread the disease when he or she is shedding the virus. The big question now is, is there no cure for herpes?

There actually is not. However, before you sulk at this depressing fact, you must also know that while herpes has no cure to date, it can still be treatable. During outbreaks, the virus may hide in the cells of one’s nervous system, thus it becomes unseen by medications and by the immune system. Sometimes, it can lie dormant in the body thus making it impossible to be cured and the person will never know that he or she has the disease.

Is there no cure for herpes, at all? It is possible for you to treat the disease but it does not mean that you will fully be cured of it. One of the options is medication, specifically the antiviral drugs that help prevent the reactivation of the simplex viruses in the body. This way, one can prevent outbreaks – he or she does not have to suffer from it – and shedding – so the spreading of the virus is also prevented.

The other method that one can take is improving the immune system. This means eating healthier, getting enough rest and sleep, exercising and reducing stress. Stress is usually the number one factor as to why the simplex virus that stays “asleep” in the body can become reactivated, even after a long period. A person may also take some supplements to enhance their immune system but they are not always rated with good scores when it comes to their safety and effectiveness. Vaccines have been developed to strengthen the immune system but a general-purpose vaccine has not yet been discovered.

Is there no cure for herpes? There may be no direct cure for the disease but you can treat the symptoms to reduce its effects. For example, acyclovir is one medication you can put on your sores to help them heal fast. While symptoms like sores and lesions may appear around four to seven days after infection, they generally disappear in the body in just two to three weeks.

Although there is no definitive cure available for Herpes, there are effective treatments available that can make coping with Herpes much easier. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment.

To prevent feeling pain from your sores especially if you have contracted genital herpes, you may take aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen but it would be best to ask the doctor about the right drug to use. Placing lukewarm towels on the sores may help or, if you like, you can take a lukewarm bath instead. Urinating at the end may actually help in reducing pain as well. The infected person should also keep the genital area clean and dry and he or she should wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes.

Yes, it is possible!

It may sound surprising to you but, yes, getting the herpes virus in the eye is possible. How does this happen?

We all know that herpes is a sexually transmitted disease so you might ask how one could possibly catch the virus in his or her eyes. This can happen if a friend or family member has caught the herpes virus and is already at the stage where the symptoms start to disappear. Disappearance does not mean that the virus has died out – spreading of the disease usually happens at this stage.

During this time, they are actually shedding the virus and this can be found in his or her saliva or nasal secretions. When you come in contact with any of these, there is a possibility that the virus would enter your nose or mouth and could travel through the same nerves as that of the eye. The virus may never cause real problems in the eye and could stay inactive. However, stress and other factors could activate the virus, thus an eye infection becomes visible.

When a person contracts herpes virus in the eye, he or she may show certain symptoms like red eyes, blurred vision, teary or watery eyes and discomfort in the eye region. Other symptoms could appear, depending on what type of herpes virus in the eye is causing it.

One common form of eye herpes is called the herpes keratitis. This form infects the cornea of the eyes. Fortunately, this type of herpes easily heals without scarring. Stromal keratitis is another disease caused by herpes virus in the eye that infects deeper into the cornea. This disease could lead to scarring, loss of vision and, if it gets worse, can cause blindness. When the immune system does not react as fast to herpes keratitis, it can develop into a stromal keratitis. The most serious form of eye herpes is called the iridocyclitis. Here, the iris becomes infected and the person becomes more sensitive to light and may experience pain, redness and blurred vision.

How do you treat herpes virus in the eye?

Treatment for these forms of herpes actually depends on the specific location of the infection. Eye drops and ointments are commonly used for infections in the upper layer of the cornea. Some people may also take oral antiviral pills. Debridement, or the process of scraping out the infected epithelial cells in the cornea, is a process performed by doctors for eye herpes. The use of eye patches and contact lenses would help give some time for the cornea to heal.

There are effective treatments available that can ease the pain and help control Herpes eye infection. Find out more about our recommended Natural Herpes Treatment.

Steroid drops are also considered when treating the herpes virus in the eye but these are not always recommended. This is because it could weaken the eye’s immune system. For severe cases, surgery is often performed, so that the infected area can be removed. This method may cause permanent corneal scarring so a corneal transplant would have to be done in order to bring back the person’s vision.
