Herpes is a common viral infection that is caused by Simplex Virus. It is a sexually transmitted disease that spreads from one person to another person by skin-to-skin contact. It usually appears as blisters around the lips of the face and also in the genital regions. As it is incurable and efforts are on to find a cure for it, it has been a mystery for the mankind for ages. Mankind has been trying to learn about The History of Herpes for a long time. Herpes simplex is a disease caused by two types of viruses called the HSV-1 and the HSV-2. They can affect a person orally or the genitalias. Oral herpes is usually caused by HSV-1 while genital herpes is caused by HSV-2.

These infections are, actually, what is more commonly called cold sores or fever blisters. Other signs that you have contracted herpes labialis include headaches, dizziness, nausea and painful ulcers that often look like canker sores. Infected people may also experience fever and a sore throat. They do not always show up at first so it can be hard to tell if you are infected or not but generally, if the symptoms do appear, they can disappear in two weeks. However, even if the sores and blisters did disappear from the mouth, it does not mean that the virus HSV-1 has also been removed.

A medical truth is that any one who is sexually active is eligible to have sexually transmitted disease (STD). Herpes is of two types – oral and genital, and both can be transmitted to sexual partners quite easily. A single kiss with affected partner can make you a patient of oral herpes. Likewise, one session of intercourse with such a patient can give you genital herpes. The ex-husband of Liza Minnelli, David Gest said in court that she had this ailment and that she hid this fact from him. For one reason or anther, they were finally divorced.

Next on the list is Robin Williams. In 1986, one of his then girl friends sued him in a court of law and managed to get a compensation of $ 6.2 million. She had claimed that the actor was suffering with this disease and that he infected her. As the lady won the case and the money, the claim appears to be true.

Michael Vick, the sports star was also challenged in court in a similar way. But in his case the matter was settled out of the court so we may never know the truth.

Singing sensation Tony Bennett and megastar David Hasselhoff have also faced similar allegations, but their legal proceedings never hit the headlines.

Paris Hilton and Ann Heche are among a handful of successful people who have had the guts to admit that they were infected with Simplex Virus (HSV). They faced the people with courage and were cured calmly and safely. In fact, Ann Heche has mentioned it in her autobiography written in the year 2001 that she was suffering with genital herpes ever since the tender age of 6 or 7. That was after her father molested her.
